Meditation is the process of experiencing
a state of pure awareness. Through calming the mind and
emotions you can experience a state of peace and tranquility.
Meditation is a simple technique that can be learned
in a few minutes but to master it requires continued
practice and mature knowledge of the process. Pranayama
is the process of breath control. Breath is intricately
connected to the mind and emotions. When one is calm
the breath is deep and slow. When one is tense, anxious,
angry or fearful the breath is either held, irregular,
short or difficult. Therefore by changing your breathing
pattern you can regulate your emotions and feel calm.
These techniques have been known to switch off the fight
or flight response and switch on the parasympathetic
part of the autonomic nervous system, moving one away
from the fight or flight response to one of rest, relaxation
and repair. This combination of Pranayama and Meditation
practice will allow you to experience the health benefits
of reduced blood pressure, increased immune system, stress
reduction, and a general state of well being.
