A japanese style of bodywork based on thousands of years of chinese medical theory is performed on a futon on the floor with the receiver fully clothed. This traditional zen shiatsu uses deep compression on the acupressure points to release energy blockages in the classical chinese meridians in the body and assisted stretches to open up the range of motion in the joints. The abdominal diagnosis in this modality allows the giver to treat and offer symptomatic relief of migraines, tension headaches, sciatica, neck pain, back pain, and intestinal distress. The stationary perpendicular compression on the acupressure points induces a deep relaxation response in the body and opens up the flow of energy for a renewed sense of well-being. Shirodhara is our most meditative and relaxing treatment in which a soothing stream of warm organic herbalized oil is poured over the forehead and onto the sixth chakra, your intuitive energetic center. The marma points of the face and head are also massaged. Touching a marma point changes the body’s biochemistry and can unfold radical, biochemical change in one’s makeup. Stimulation of these inner pathways signals the body to produce exactly what it needs, including hormones and neurochemicals that heal the body, mind and consciousness. This deep dimension of marma therapy has the potential to sooth the nervous system and unfold spiritual healing. The full treatment calms the central nervous system, synchronizes brain waves, and integrates the mind and body, resulting in better brain function, mood stability and improved stress handling ability. With each successive Shirodhara treatment. the mind systematically achieves an even deeper state of silence and more healing takes place. Regular treatments are said to increase blood circulation to the brain, improve memory, nourish the hair and scalp, and encourage a sound sleep. This treatment is most often combined with abhyanga and lasts 90 minutes. The result is a blissful body and mind.
