Yoga asana is healing for the mind and body yet many people seek out yoga solely for its therapeutic benefits. Some come to yoga to balance past activities, heal from injuries, as part of rehabilitation, or for pure enjoyment. On a physical level, we all come to yoga with different strengths and weaknesses and hope that through practice we will become a more balanced individual. Yoga can be healing and balancing to the body, but if we are not careful or overzealous in our practice, yoga can exacerbate our weaknesses or cause injury. In this workshop we will address some of the most common muscular imbalances, the most common injuries from yoga, what patterns are causing them, and how to recover and prevent re-occurrence . We will look at both yoga postures from a rehabilitative angle as well as specific exercises to help to heal injuries or to counter balance weaknesses. After attending this workshop, you will leave with some specific tools to use during practice and outside of practice. We will cover:

Friday–Upper Extremities:

  • Neck/Shoulder
  • Wrist/Elbow
  • Upper extremity Kinetic Chain

Saturday–Lower Extremities:

  • Hip
  • Hamstring
  • Low Back
  • Knee/ankle
  • Lower Extremity Kinetic Chain

This workshop is appropriate for students dealing with chronic injuries and for teachers to address the needs of their students.
